La Ruta de Las Flores

Its name comes from the yellow flowers that form a dazzling hedge from October to November ... there are still some flowering groves during our passage.

The road goes through volcanoes, small villages and numerous coffee plantations.

We make a stop at "Sonata", urban center without interest where we buy gas and some food.

* Nahuizalgo: the oldest home of the indigenous people of El Salvador who still speak Nahuatl (pre-Columbian language).

* Juayua: this village hosts every weekend its gastronomic festival in the "Parque Central". All the stalls offer a combination of local dishes ... A real treat. Moreover we arrived during the celebrations of Christ ... A family atmosphere to the sound of orchestras and firecrackers of course !!!

* Conception of Ataco:  typical village of the region, very lively and especially known for the gallery of the « FaBru’s Hermanos » (paintings of the Memitas).

* Ahuachapan: it is here that the FaBru’s brothers painted murals of their favourite theme "Las Memitas" ( women with big eyes).

But we only found walls without frescoes ... Most of them have disappeared. A pitty as this was the only attraction of this town…

We liked the landscapes amid volcanoes, coffee plantations and flowered villages, but there is not much to see in El Salvador ... We don’t expect much of the rest of the journey ... Wait and see.
Mizata

To avoid making a detour of 100 km, we once again take a "lancha" to cross the lagoon ... small pleasant sailing.

We head to the border hoping that it’s not too busy.

According to several travellers, the way to the border is often blocked by a line of trucks that can reach 10 km ... It is then necessary to overtake them by zigzagging, which is quite dangerous.

We are lucky, no truck today ... We are alone ... It only take us an hour to complete the formalities.

We drive through the same landscape as in Guatemala, endless fields of "sugar cane" where all work is done by hand.

We reach  the edge of the Pacific Ocean at " Mizata " and stay  with Antonio and his family for 4 days.

This allows us to clean our camper that needs it and make some small repairs.

The roads are not of good quality, our companion suffers a lot and it is not always easy to do the small repairs on free camping.

It is also an opportunity to eat fish and shrimps.

Every evening we watch the sunset, as well as the gallop of horses riding along the beach.
