Petropolis
It’s time to get back to storage in Petropolis.
The access road is winding, narrow, two-lane, but used by a pack of trucks that are struggling to climb 1,000 m.We didn’t think we were in the mountains.
Good surprise : the storage is ideal, clean and very nice.
We spend the afternoon doing some shopping and laundry.
The second day we visit the city.
The history of Petrópolis began in 1830, when Peter I, enchanted by the climate and the beauty ofthe Atlantic Forest, acquired a farm.
Then on March 16, 1843, Peter II gave birth to Petropolis.
Built to be the seat of the court in summer, it has the majesty typical of manors and colonial mansions of wealthy families.
* The Imperial Palace: Former second home of Emperor Pedro II in the 18th century converted into a museum.
This is the first time we visit a museum in "felt pads" ... At the entrance pads distribution not to damage the floor!! Original
* the Crystal Palace: splendid glass case, Belle Époque, was imported from France in 1879 by the son-in-law of the emperor. Intended to host balls and floral exhibitions, it was the solemn theatre of the emancipation of slaves from Petrópolis by Princess Isabel in 1888.
* the Gothic Cathedral: a replica of the European Gothic Inside, you can see the royal chapel that houses the graves of Dom Pedro II, the last emperor of Brazil and his wife, Empress Dona Teresa Cristina. Beautiful stained glass windows
