Petropolis

It’s time to get back to storage in Petropolis.

The access road is winding, narrow, two-lane, but used by a pack of trucks that are struggling to climb 1,000 m.We didn’t think we were in the mountains.

Good surprise : the storage is ideal, clean and very nice.

We spend the afternoon doing some shopping and laundry.

The second day we visit the city.

The history of Petrópolis began in 1830, when Peter I, enchanted by the climate and the beauty ofthe Atlantic Forest, acquired a farm.

Then on March 16, 1843, Peter II gave birth to Petropolis.

Built to be the seat of the court in summer, it has the majesty typical of manors and colonial mansions of wealthy families.

* The Imperial Palace: Former second home of Emperor Pedro II in the 18th century converted into a museum.
This is the first time we visit a museum in "felt pads" ... At the entrance pads distribution not to damage the floor!! Original

* the Crystal Palace: splendid glass case, Belle Époque, was imported from France in 1879 by the son-in-law of the emperor. Intended to host balls and floral exhibitions, it was the solemn theatre of the emancipation of slaves from Petrópolis by Princess Isabel in 1888.

* the Gothic Cathedral: a replica of the European Gothic Inside, you can see the royal chapel that houses the graves of Dom Pedro II, the last emperor of Brazil and his wife, Empress Dona Teresa Cristina. Beautiful stained glass windows
Arraial Do Cabo

Today the road converts into  a two lanes road... A real happiness.

The landscapes are still as monotonous ... Brazil is huge and the distances from one point to another are long.

We spend most of the day on the road, before joining " Arraial Do Cabo ".

We stay 5 days... Resort without charm. We are only 180 km from Petropolis where we found a storage for our camper..

We arrived early in the region by foresight knowing the road network not always at the top and the behavior of our travel companion.

We had 2000 km to travel from Salvador da Bahia in 15 days ... It may seem wide by the way ...

Fortunately because it was without counting on mechanical problems, traffic jams, roads overloaded with trucks and weather conditions.

We passed through regions without tourist interest, except the huge white sandy beaches lined with coconut trees but difficult to access.
Linares / Sao José

We continue our descent towards Rio.

The road is monotonous and we still have 950 km to go.

On the way we stop at a mechanic to put a clamp on the bellows of the gimbal. And it’s not a joke. Stop for the first night in a gas station where we can have electricity.

The second day we find ourselves in a huge traffic jam in both directions following work on the road.

Over 20 km in two hours...

We did not think to do 300 km in 7 hours!!

Stop for the second night always in a gas station with electricity.
Prado

Before leaving we visit the small historic center which has nothing extraordinary.

However we are witnessing a show of "Capoeira"

This Afro-Brazilian martial art appeared at the time of slavery in Brazil.

He grew up thanks to black African slaves who were looking for a weapon to fight their owners. It is a struggle danced with wooden knives; also using hands, feet, head, elbows and intelligence.

In Brazil, capoeira has long been discriminated against as a struggle of blacks and poor

According to legend another village recommends being the place where the Portuguese would have arrived.

"Santa Cruz Cabraila" is also uninteresting.

We finally reach "Prado" where a camping hotel hosts us for 2 nights.

Our days are dedicated to updating the site, reading and resting.
Porto Seguro

We must continue our journey.

To reach "Porto Seguro" we drive in the rain.

The region we cross makes us think of the Amazon as a very dense forest composed of several species of trees.

Arrived at destination, we look for the campsite that was recommended to us.

Those are the summer holidays and the seaside is impossible to reach. A huge crowd in light clothing invades the road and sidewalks.

The campsite is almost complete and surrounded by restaurants, bars and other shops ... Very noisy

We do not stay and we head to the historic center located on the cliff.

We spend the night on the parking lot among the tourist buses.

Porto Seguro is the historical site of the discovery of Brazil by the Portuguese settlers at the beginning of the 15th century.

This is where Pedro Alvares Cabral and the Portuguese expedition he commanded landed on 22 April 1500.
Instead of joining the Indies, he discovers a new land, a new continent.

The remains of early colonization are gathered at the top of the hill.
Sargi

Rest day in the rain ... According to Brazilians the weather does not correspond to the season.

Here it is summer ... Synonymous with holidays under the sun and accompanied by high temperatures.

Too bad : the beach is beautiful.

We live in humidity and almost tropical heat.
