Border / Juan Mallorquin
We are the only foreigners who want to cross the border on a Saturday, when Brazilians go to Paraguay to do their shopping ... Traffic jam guaranteed!!
We read that it was necessary to be there before 10 o'clock. Therefore we schedule our awakening for 6:30.
We say goodbye to our Breton friends and around 8 am we head to the border post ... And there we have, as planned, 4 km of traffic jam.
We take the right line to park more easily like trucks and buses.
The left side serves Brazilians who do not need an entry or exit visa which allows them to pass to the other side quickly.
The exit formalities quickly pass a little waiting at immigration due to our authorization to stay 60 days more. No customs, we have no TIP.
We take the motorhome to cross the crowded bridge and still on the right line.
Once on the Paraguayan side we park along the building and we go to immigration where the formalities take only 5 minutes... Then it is the turn of the customs ... This is the first time that the customs officer having no computer filled out the form on a stub book ... We participate with him to fill in the boxes … Original!!
We quickly leave the border town of "Ciudad de l'Este" to go to the dam of "Itaipu" after stopping to buy a SIM card and do some shopping.
The Itaipú Dam is a dam on the Paraná River, on the border between Paraguay and BraziL
It is the largest hydropower plant in operation in the world for annual energy production. The artificial lake has 29 billion m³ of water, with an extension of 200 km in a straight line and an approximate area of 1400 km².
The dam is 7,700 metres long and 196 metres high.
We are disappointed by the visit ... We are in the summer and the water does not flow because of the lack of rain and the very low level of the artificial lake.
We spend the night in a hotel car park. Temperatures start to rise
