Camarones / Garayalde
We are on the road to " Camarones ".
When the National Salmon Day is in full swing, this eldorado of wool turns into a raging bazaar.
The rest of the year, the interest is the "Parque nacional dos Bahias" and the "Museo Peron.
* Cabo Dos Bahías: Two pink bays were once the home of a large colony of sea lions, before they were dislodged by the Argentine army, which used the brave mammals as training targets...
After the Falklands War, the "Magellan’s Penguins" took the opportunity to squat in those deserted places.
A 7 km hike, back and forth, leads us to the other bay where we can spot "Double-crested sea lions".
This part of the coast is swept by a very strong wind. We are struggling to withstand the storms.
* Museo Peron: This small but ambitious museum is the opportunity to give a brief biography of General Perón, an essential figure in Argentine history, who is both revered and defamed, and continues to weigh on national political life.
The weather is nice and allows us to stay until the next afternoon to return to Garaylde.
Garayalde
On the way to " Punta Tombo "
Provincial reserve, the site is exciting: It is one of the largest nesting sites for Magellan penguins.
From September to March, these adorable animals come to make their nest again, to welcome their babies in November. In January, the young penguins start swimming and then in March they migrate north.
The latest count is 1 million individuals: A touching sight. .
A passerelle crosses the site which allows us to see these funny creatures very close!
Unable to stay on the site we continue our route to a gas station more than 150 km away to fill up with water.
Here the distances are long and the gas stations quite rare ... Except in town!
Playa Escondido
When we wake up, we see whales... a nice early morning show.
Leaving our beach we stop at " Gaiman ".
It is the most Welsh of the villages in the area. Here, Welsh traditions and habits are still firmly rooted in the way of life of the inhabitants, starting with the rite of tea, which is sipped in the local tea houses.
We visit the first stone house built in 1874.
Following the advice of Françoise and Christian we join the " Playa Escondido "
Site where a sea lion colony takes up residence each spring for the birth of the young and for mating.
The weather is not unpleasant: intermittent sun and cloud, even a few drops of rain. So we decide to stay there. The view is magnificent on this huge bay.
We park on the beach and spend our two days watching these huge beasts.
We are witnessing several scenes of " Sex " !!! The male spends his time honoring his females and defending his territory.
On several occasions, other males appear and we witness a rather violent but rapid fight.
Nights are rather cool: 7°C
Playa Union
A busy day.
After breakfast we pick up our laundry (3 large baskets) and then we buy a new duvet.
Temperatures are dropping rapidly and in the morning they are around 4°C... Yet we are in early spring ... As we plan to reach the " Tierra de Fuego " in the south of Argentina, where nights and days will be very cool, we are starting to equip ourselves.
Then we stop in a garage specialized in electricity to check the turn signals that do not always work... Nothing serious, just the relay.
Once the part is changed, we get the oil of the camper changed.
Here we find the air and diesel filters without any problems, which saves us from bringing them back from France.
It may sound ridiculous but carrying in your luggage, for example, air filters is not easy ... They are not heavy but take up a lot of space!!! In addition we are likely to pay VAT on imported products.
Before leaving the city, stop again at "Western Union" to collect pesos since here we pay everything in cash to get a better exchange rate.
This is a busy morning...
After lunch we drive along the Old Antiquity coast to the town of "Trelew" and its "Museo Paleontoligico" which presents remarkable dinosaurs ...
That we will not see!!! museum closed for restoration ... Original no!!!
We end our day at "Playa Union" where we see seals on the beach.
