Futaleufu

Last day in Chile.

Still a splendid 29°C  weather and an asphalted road ... We are back in civilization!!!

Afternoon spent cleaning the camper and preparing our border crossing tomorrow.

Very quiet night on the edge of " Lago Verde
The Junta

We decide on this Christmas day to rest.

The sky is azure and the temperature rises to 30°. We can finally put on shorts and t-shirts ... True happiness.

We choose "La Junta" as our base and after two unsuccessful attempts, we find our ideal bivouac.

It is on the edge of the "Rio Figueroa" in a field with a tree that provides shade all day. And from time to time cows pass by without our presence disturbing them.

We take out our small table and chairs for the aperitif ... It’s been a long time since we enjoyed the outdoors.

We must admit that since our arrival in September, we have had many sunny days with fairly low temperatures. We expected more days of bad weather.

We stay there for the night.
Laguna de Las Torres
We leave late under a gloomy sky

The road is finally paved. Despite low clouds, we enjoy the mid-mountain landscapes and the many lakes in emerald blue.

On the way we stop on the side to see a waterfall without pretensions

We had planned to hike in the " Reserve National Rio Simpson " but the price of the access ticket being incredibly excessive for a single 3 km route, we passed our way!!!

We spend the night by the lake with another French camper.
Puyuhuapi

Today on the agenda: The «Parque Nacional Queulat»

On 154,093 hectares, this park is known for its magnificent Andean landscapes.

Its mountains, valleys, forests, fjords, rivers, waterfalls and glaciers offer one of the best preserved ecosystems in Chile

To the south of the park, a path leads to a lookout overlooking the spectacular "Ventisquero Colgante", a glacier suspended above a cliff, giving birth to waterfalls.

The extraordinary view on this glacier deserves: A 6.6 km hike back and forth with a strong difference in altitude to which we must add, for us, a special camper parking lot 3 km back and forth.

After this visit we rest at the edge of " Puyuhuapi  lake" in the sun ... What a pleasure!

Small disappointment for our Christmas meal, the cakes we bought are tasteless
Laguna Queulat

We continue our route divided into two sections. The first is well asphalted on a good part of the course, but the second is in deformed ripio, narrow, very sinuous and especially steep.

We stopped in a parking lot to see a waterfall and on our return a French-camping stopped ... 1 hour 30 discussion on a bunch of topics ... Very nice meeting.

On his advice, we bivouacked with other camping-carers at the edge of the lagoon where we can see little dolphins.
Coyhaique

We continue our north road in Chile.

It’s a beautiful day and we still travel within beautiful landscapes.
We stop at "Coyhaique" for two days.

The town was once inhabited by various small groups of indigenous people.

The region’s environmental and climatic conditions were conducive to cattle and sheep farming. Also, in the late nineteenth century, colonization began.

The large native forests have attracted several forestry companies and "Coyhaique" was founded in 1929.

After dropping off our laundry and doing some shopping, we go to the tourist office. Then we buy a "real bread loaf" ... What a joy!!! (Fanny’s advice)

We cannot visit the " parque national de Coyhaique " : The road is under construction.

We end up choosing to visit  " Lago Elizalde ". We access it by a ripio road. The lake is 25 km long and 2 km wide on average, surrounded by dense forests and snow-capped mountains.

But there is no parking to appreciate the environment ... Too bad.

Then to end the tour, we drive along around the 6 lagoons where there isn’t any parking.
