Beach on the Pacific Ocean
At the edge of the Pacific, in the small village of "Sipacaté", remote from the world, Greg, a French guy, has settled there for 7 years ... an address that all camper-owners know.
His installation was not easy and still today he fights with the locals ... but as he says "he found his little paradise". So he remains despite his very great solitude.
We spend two days in his company for his greatest pleasure.
Then we follow the coast to reach "Los Cebellitos". It is here that an association that protects the turtles laying eggs on this huge beach has settled.
To get there, we take a "lancha with a flat bottom" to cross the lagoon. A nice little cruise.
We visit the "nursery" and then spend the late afternoon resting.
We are not witnessing the release of small turtles trapped in a concreted enclosure and kept in a basin before putting them to sea ... !!!
Tomorrow we leave Guatemala for El Salvador.
Guatemala City
Before going on with our journey, we return to Fiat to know the exact defective part(s) of the heating radiator, to be able to buy it in France.
We reach the capital without traffic jams by a fast lane, longer in kilometres but easier.
Fireworks are launched at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock to celebrate the New Year throughout the country ... a custom well respected by the Guatemalan people.
The next day we go to the dealership and they tell us that an air condition workshop can do the repair. He knows him for long.
So, we meet "Ricardo" who takes in hand our camper. The repair is possible, his team will adapt a new radiator and machine the pipes .... 4 hours of work
In the meantime, we stay on site: Christophe perfects his Spanish and Jean-Pierre works on the site.
At lunch break, we join the staff at a local restaurant.
One less worry ... Everything seems to be working.
It’s too late to reach the Pacific Ocean. We stay in the capital.
Antigua
After yesterday’s emotions, we go back to "Antigua" to celebrate New Year.
The way back is entirely paved and of very good quality. We do not follow the instructions of our GPS when it asks us to turn right on a small road ... we prefer to stay on the main road even if it extends ou trip of several kilometers ... and we discover by the same occasion that we could have taken it the day
before !!
We join our X’mas camper-friends with great pleasure.
We go to the tourist office to get the program of the next day and finish the afternoon strolling in this pleasant city.
There is no big festivity organized but rather small animations on the main street.
In the meantime, we visit the cultural center set up in an old monastery where temporary exhibitions take place.
The one we discover is dedicated to the book "The Little Prince" and how Guatemala would have inspired its author ... quite fascinating !!!
Then we attend the various street shows with pleasure, we take part of the joy that has taken hold of the city.
At midnight the city ignites ... hundreds of fireworks illuminate the sky.
Happy New Year 2020
