Manta / Guayaquil
We leave Samuel who helped us a lot in our research.
Direction Manta where the tire dealer is waiting for us ... We had no other solutions to change the defective wheel.
We ordered tires in Peru from a Michelin dealer.
We drive back to Guayaquil to spend the night.
Puerto Cayo
We decide to settle down in a campsite in Puerto Cayo. The journey is only 36 km.
That’s enough for a rear tire to burst in a steep turn ...
We move the motorhome a bit to be in a more flat place and mark the road to signal us to other motorists.
While Jean-Pierre regulates the traffic, poor Christophe gets organized to disassemble the tire ... a work of titan ... With a vehicle leaning and in a bend ... The nightmare.
After a quarter of an hour, a team from the road service arrived, laying orange cones and taking control of the traffic.
There’s four of them watching us change the wheel.
We leave with the broken tire in the camper and arrive at Samuel’s.
Once installed we try to find a tire seller who can help us ... Unfortunately Michelin is present in Ecuador but does not provide the type of tire suitable for our motorhome.
We find a dealer who has the type of tire we are looking for in an unknown brand, but 80 km away. We'll see...
To change our mind, we make a tour of the village which is the copy paste of Puerto Lopez with rain in addition... A real happiness.
We stay two days, which allows us to clean the motorhome, do laundry and work on the site.
Puerto Lopez
Today we reach the Pacific Ocean to Puerto Lopez.
The first part of the journey is done in good conditions, the second part along the ocean is more difficult ... The road is not maintained and driving is done by trying to avoid the many holes, "topes" and landslides.
We cross small fishing villages along our route through a very dusty vegetation. The roadsides are full of garbage ... We feel like we’re back in Mexico.
We stop in Puerto Lopez, described as a small family resort... It is not the dreamy beach with coconut trees and white sand; the streets are unpaved and houses made of "bric and broc" .... Really not glamorous.
The village is almost empty and the weather is not fine. We only stay 2 days, a little disappointed.
