Zion National Park

As in Bryce Canyon, 13 millions years ago, underground forces uplifted the Colorado plateau 3000 meters above sea level.

During the past centuries, the floods of the Virgin River hollowed out canyons whose sheer walls reach 900 meters in height.

We arrive early afternoon in Zion NP through the Zion Mount Carmel Highway and its 2 km long narrow tunnel ( regulated for campers).

Of course, the RV parking lot is full, as the only way to enter the canyon is to take a shuttle bus, and parking intown is extremely expensive.
We'll se tomorrow...

Early morning the next day, we find a place for the camper.

We spend most of the day in the Park, mostly on the "Angel's Landing Trail".

It's a very difficult one, with 450 meters difference in height, but with spectacular overlooks .

We suffered a lot !
Bryce Canyon National Park

This national park at the altitude of most of our ski resort in the Alps : 2 500 m.

For millions of years, rivers deposited sediments, mosly dissolved lime-stone, into a systeme of large lakes.

Massive tectonic plate activity raised the region nearly two miles, lakes dried up and their mixture sediments became hoodoos (colunms) windows or fins.

Color varies from orange to brown or vermilion.

On our arrival, the wheather is rotten : rain and fog ! No problem ...we'll wait until tomorow.

As in most national park, there are very few parking lots for the camper and we're beeing asked tho take a shuttle bus to go the main overlooks.

Nevertheless, we manage to park at the " Sunset Point " trail head of a super hiking in the white, pink and  orange " amphitheater.

We walk another hike in the afternoon form " Bryce Point " to " Inspiration Point ", two dramatic headlands overlooking the " amphitheater ".
The weather forecast for the next coming days is not really good.

What's left from " Rose Hurricane " is crossing the country with a lot of rain and a drop down of the temperatures.

Our next destination " Capitol Reef " is under a weather alert for heavy rains and floods.

We get more information at the public library, which we can have free wifi and decide to change our plans and go to " Bryce Canyon " instead.

We leave lated morning by the major highways
