Bahia de Los Angeles
Two relaxing days.
The sun is back and we keep staring at this beautiful bay.
All the day long, we keep watching seaguls, cormorans, pelicans, plovers, herons and egrets diving into the ocean.
In the late afternoon some dolphins appear in front of us.
And at night, a few coyotes fight around the camper.
Bahia De Los Angeles
We cross a hilly landscape with huge rocks and cactus trees on a very cahotic road.... but what a show.
After driving three hours , hardly seeing any other vehicles, we arrive on the East coast of Baja California on the Cortez Sea.
" Bahia de Los Angeles "is a little hugly fishermen village with no character. it's reputation is only due to the beauty of it's turquoise water.
But for us, it's grey water and very cloudy sky.
The sun is back.
We walk along the beach before heading south.
Within 3 hours, we arrive at " Catavina Boulders field".
It's a National park where thousands ofthe famous cactus, emblem of Mexico, "the candelabras" grow.
Some of them reach 10 meters in height.
Our cruising speed is reduced, due to the road conditions and the speed limits varying from 40 to 80 km/h.
Of course, we're the only one to respect the speed limits : mexican don't.
San Quintin
We wake up this morning under a grey sky which quickly turns to rain.
It doesn't really matter as the road we take today is not supposed to be the most beautiful one.
But with such a dull day, poverty takes another dimension ; the houses are built with bits and peaces and surrounded by trash.
The first village we cross plunge us into the mexican reality : a corpse is laying along the road. A criminal scene delimited by yellow ribbons under the supervision of two policemen.
Welcome to Mexico.
A few km later, we find our first military checkpoint. They seem more interested in visiting the camper than checking our identity.
The road ( Mex 1) is in avery bad condition : potholes, stop signs everywhere and masses of "tope" these very high speed bumps.
The role of the copilote is essential !
Our bivouac on the parking place of a nice hôtel on the beach gives us the opportunity of having a god meal at the restaurant.!
Christophe enjoys one kg of crab claws with a paprika sauce .
Enselada
We're 15 km away from Mexico.
We take a huge breakfast to emply the fridge, as not fresh food is allowed across the border and then drove to Tecate.
We need less than one hour to get a 6 months visa for both of us and 10 years permission for the camper.
Mexican adventure can now start !!!
The atmosphere is completely different : no more brand new cars, roads in a pretty poor state and houses painted in bright colours...
We purchase a 6 months insurance for the camper and get our first pesos from the bank.
As it's not advised to stay in this area, we directly drive to Enselada, about
100 km south through a nice landscape, to do some shopping.
The price in the supermarket are much lower than in the United States.
We drive another 40 km to find a nice bivouac on top of the cliff,, overlooking the ocean.
